Point Arena 6x8
There's a lighthouse out here but it's all covered with tyvek and surrounded by scaffolding because it's being repaired at the moment so I decided to paint this rocky point just to the south instead.

robot #1 5x7
I have a number of old overhead and opaque projectors in my classroom. Only one or two are ever in working order at a given time. I tell myself that I keep them around for spare parts. I think I really just like the way they look. After getting several comments regarding this painting I decided to change it's name. I realized that this anthropomorphic quality is what appeals to me.

belt 4x8
This is my karate belt. I met Duane Keiser at a practice in 2006 and his example is what got me painting again after a long lay off.

I found some of these blooming on campus today. They were a nice splash of color in our otherwise achromatic garden.

persimmon #6 5x7
A student brought in a couple of persimmons the other day and I took 'em home so I could paint them over the vacation. He got them off of a tree in his yard. They seem to be brighter than the ones I've bought in the store recently. I think they're more ripe.

cemetery 6x8
I joined a local plein air painters meet up group about a week ago and today I met up with some of them at the old Sacramento Cemetery. I've driven by it hundreds of times on my way to the river to paint, but this is the first time I've gone inside. It's a really nice place to paint with a lot of future potential. I'll be back for sure. In addition to finding a new place to paint I also met some really nice people, among them, David Lobenberg, a fellow Sacramento area blogger. I'm looking forward to the next outing I can attend.

football 7x5
I typically paint objects that are a bit smaller than footballs. Doing an object of this size presented some practical problems for me. I needed a stage that would accommodate a football and I needed it to be about twice as far away as my usual set up. Tinkering with my space ended up being a pretty fun experience as breaking a routine often is.

Sutter Buttes 10x9
It was a beautiful day to be out painting. The Sutter Buttes are about an hours drive from my house. They are famous for being the worlds smallest mountain range.

moon #3 6x8
This latest batch of still lifes has been a lot of fun but I miss painting outside. The shorter days makes it a bit of a challenge but it's worth it when I can make it happen.
