Sutter Buttes 10x9

It was a beautiful day to be out painting. The Sutter Buttes are about an hours drive from my house. They are famous for being the worlds smallest mountain range.

Old Ironsides 6x8

Old Ironsides is a bar in mid town Sacramento. I forgot my palette knife today so I had to mix my colors with my brushes. Definitely not the way I prefer to do it! I think the painting came out o.k. in spite of that.

American River near Sacramento 10x8

It was pretty hot today. I was standing in the shade under a railroad bridge when I painted this one.

hay bales #2 10x8

I drove around for quite a while before finding any hay bales that I could park near and approach. I was going to try to do a couple of paintings but it ended up being very hot today.

Sacramento River #3 7x7

Cool and clear on the Sacramento River. This is down by Miller Park. I've painted here before but the scene was quite a bit more colorful.

Marina #2 7x7

Looking north from Discovery Park up the Sacramento River you can see River Bank Marina. This was one of my favorite places to letter boats when I was painting signs for a living.

Sacramento River #2 7x7

There was finally a big enough break in the weather for me to get a painting in. It was still a bit overcast but the sun broke through a few times and kept things interesting.

marina 7x7

This is River Bank Marina as seen from Discovery Park in Sacramento. I lettered countless boats at this marina when I was painting signs full time. It was one of my favorite places to work during the summer. My customers were always very nice and I invariably got more business from the other boat owners while I worked.

This painting is available through my new gallery, Kasini House.

tower bridge 7x7

I found a little path going upstream from Miller Park that lead to a nice vantage point of Tower Bridge. I'm looking forward to painting this again whe the sun is out.

tree 7x7

Today was a bit overcast. I spent about an hour driving around some agricultural areas looking for something to paint. It was a nice scouting trip as I found quite a few things that caught my eye. On many of them, the flat, overcast light was pretty uninteresting. I finally settled on this lone tree in the middle of a field. I think the atmosphere makes it look a bit sullen and moody which I think is kind of fitting. Most fields like this around here are becoming housing developments. In another few years there will probably be one here. It will be called something like “the Pastures".
