This bread was made by students in the gardening class with ingredients from the school garden. I ate it immediately after completing the painting. It was good.

This one was pretty challenging. It would have been easier to paint while it was still full.

twisted pear 7x5

A friend of mine gave me a cool deformed pear to paint about a week ago. I didn't get around to painting it until today. It was a bit soft and faded so i went out to the tree in front of my classroom to get another and I discovered that all the pears on that tree are deformed.

low bluff 8x10

This is out at Rattlesnake Bar. I think this ridge is under water during non-drought years, which we of course never have in California any more. Right now this has got to be the dustiest place on earth. There are a bunch of four wheel drive trails out here and the recreational vehicles have been pulverizing the ground for about four months. In the area where I was painting everything is covered with super fine gray dust.

Old Ironsides 6x8

Old Ironsides is a bar in mid town Sacramento. I forgot my palette knife today so I had to mix my colors with my brushes. Definitely not the way I prefer to do it! I think the painting came out o.k. in spite of that.

My students are starting to bring me things to paint. I've got a bunch of stuff from the school garden lined up on my table at school waiting. I hope I can get to it all before it wilts or rots!

zinnia

This is from the flower garden at school. Thanks to Jill Mendelsohn for the great suggestion. I really like the burnt orange color of these flowers. This little antique hot sauce bottle is getting painted quite a bit lately. I'm going to have to invest in some more varied glassware soon.

American River near Sacramento 10x8

It was pretty hot today. I was standing in the shade under a railroad bridge when I painted this one.

bottled pepper 5x7

I have been painting every day for two years now. I watch less TV than I did before I started this project and I pay more attention to how I plan my days. I'm very happy to be painting consistently again. I'm starting this one off at just one dollar. Thanks to every one who visits this blog!

sunflower #3 5x7

I'm not sure why I've painted sunflowers so infrequently. This time of year they are all over the place. I think part of the reason is that they're so big that I don't have the right sized vases to put them in.

Mark 10x8

My friend Mark came up from Southern California and I managed to get him to sit for me. He was looking down reading a book. He looks kind of angry but I think he's just concentrating. The red on the left is the ground. Most of my portrait studies are done on glue sized card stock and I like to tint the sizing with red acrylic paint.

I drove around for quite a while before finding any hay bales that I could park near and approach. I was going to try to do a couple of paintings but it ended up being very hot today.
