We went up to my mom's house near Weimar for brunch today. I took off for an hour or so to paint the old barn across the road. I believe it used to be a dairy barn when it was in use. It's deterioration is accelerating. I am going to try to document it as it falls into the ground.

I brought my paintings down to Briggs and Co. after school today. The opening for the Winters Plein Air Festival is tomorrow at 6:00. I saw a lot of great work being hung there. I'm really looking forward to seeing it all on the walls!

This is a small stream off of Scott Road toward El Dorado Hills. It was a fantastic day for painting. I got hit with a little rain but it didn't last too long.

This is a little class room demo I did today. I thought I was making it up based on some stuff I've been reading in John Carlson's guide to landscape painting. When I was done It looked pretty familiar though. It turns out it's very similar to a couple of paintings that I saw and really liked on Terry Miura's blog. It was a pretty fun little painting to make though and I think I was able to articulate the points I was trying to make to my students.

This is the Bear River about half a mile below Dog Bar bridge.

This is out at Rattlesnake Bar. I think this ridge is under water during non-drought years, which we of course never have in California any more. Right now this has got to be the dustiest place on earth. There are a bunch of four wheel drive trails out here and the recreational vehicles have been pulverizing the ground for about four months. In the area where I was painting everything is covered with super fine gray dust.

This is the small forbay (or is it an afterbay?) that the Bear River Canal empties into and then flows out of. It's in the north east corner formed by the intersection of Bell road and Highway 49.

This park is across the street from the school where I work. I took some students over there this morning to do a little painting.

Arp Ranch Barn 12x9

This old barn is across the road from my mom's house. It's very old and falling down. I'd like to do some more paintings of it before it ceases to exist entirely.
