off Scott Road 8x10

Scott Road is a rural lane between sacramento and El Dorado Hills. There's plenty of material out there for a plein air painter but It's pretty narrow and there aren't too many places to pull off and paint. This rocky knoll was an exception. There was just enough room for me to get my car off the road.

Putah Creek #2 6x8

I delivered a painting to a local patron and she was nice enough to invite me to do some painting on her beautiful property just outside of Davis. My wife and I had a great time meeting her and her family. Thanks a lot Jeanne!

I had to go to Sacramento right after school to help a friend paint a room. I arrived about an hour before he did and had time to do this quick sketch. At one point the wind blew my pochade over but the painting ended up facing up. lucky.

North Fork Americn River 7x8

I went on a hiking field trip down Steven's Trai out of Colfax today. While the kids were frolicking and resting I painted this. It was a lot of fun to try to incorporate some of the ideas that I was exposed to last week at Terry's workshop.

This is out near a small lake which I originally intended to include in today's painting. On the hike out to it, however, I was sidetracked by the trail and this back lit tree. The scrub oak, dry grass and smoke laden air is just so typically Californian that I couldn't resist painting it.

It was about 104 today. Painting at night has a lot going for it compared to this heat.

It's about little over a mile to hike in to the old Cool limestone quarry. It was pretty hot today but worth the long walk.

Rattle Snake Bar #6 8x6

This this the view while standing in the partially dry lake bed and looking up at the shoreline at Rattlesnake Bar. I liked all the different earth tones.

I went down to Rattlesnake bar again today. It was a nice day but very windy. I had to keep one hand on my pochade while I painted 'cause I was afraid it might tip over. I have to say though, that the wind is a huge improvement over the 100 plus degree weather we've had for the last few days.

Slowly but surely the lake is filling up. I do hope it gets higher than this.

dead tree 8x10

I came across this dead tree while walking near my house yesterday. I think I would have liked to paint it a bit earlier in the day with the light coming more from the side but it was about 103 degrees so I waited until about six o'clock. The sun was directly behind me at that time.
