This small pumpkin is from our school garden. There are various squashes laying around out there. I'll probably paint some more in the next week or two, This was pretty fun. Sold
This time of year I don't have to stay up too late to do a night painting. Nocturnes are a lot of fun to paint. They force you to simplify. I usually mix my colors before going out. Sold
The translucent nature of grapes makes them interesting to paint. There is not as great a difference in value between their lit side and their shadowed side as there would be if they were more opaque. I ate these when I was done painting them. Sold
I had to go to Sacramento right after school to help a friend paint a room. I arrived about an hour before he did and had time to do this quick sketch. At one point the wind blew my pochade over but the painting ended up facing up. lucky.
I am an artist living in Northern California. In 1993 I graduated from
U.C. Davis where I took classes from Wayne Thiebaud, Dave Hollowell and Roy DeForest. I currently teach high school art in Placer County California. On this blog I have posted 1000 paintings in as many days. I took a break from that strict schedule for a couple of years but since the beginning of 2014 I have been completing one small painting on a daily basis. The practice of completing a painting a day suits my disposition and aesthetic. I have also found that modeling this sort of daily practice for my students is important. I am making these paintings available on ebay. Thanks for stopping by and check back often if you like what you see.
