This one is a study for a larger painting. I'm posting a little late because I got a new computer for school and it took quite a while to transfer the files and applications from my home unit.

Phantom Spires 8x6
My son and I went rock climbing at Sugarloaf just above Kyburz. It was a fantastic day. After our climb we headed up the hill to get burgers at the Strawberry Lodge. When we were coming home I saw this back lit view of the Phantom Spires and decided to snap a picture to aid my memory so I could paint it when I got home. There are a lot of great places to paint that also happen to be great places to climb. It's going to be hard to make up my mind this summer!

Duckbill #2 8x10
This interesting rock formation is on the Bear River just above Dog Bar Bridge. We used to go swiming here all the time when we were kids.

Clementine Dam #3 10x8
I met my friend Frank Ordaz in Auburn and we went out to Clementine. The vantage point that I selected was a lot closer than what I usually choose. It was a pretty challenging view to paint from. I'm going to have to try it again some time.

trout 7x5
This is the first time I've painted a fish (I did paint a can of sardines a couple of years ago but I'm not counting that). My mom gave me this trout a couple of days ago and it was great fun. I love the reflective quality of the scales. It was a real kick to paint. I'm going to have to talk my students who fish into bringing in part of their spoils for me to explore further.

Rainbow Bridge #5 10x5
I'm preparing to do a larger painting of the Rainbow Bridge in the studio. These smaller sketches are in preparation for that. This one was done earlier in the day before the bridge was in the full sun. It was very nice out this morning. A few hours after painting this the clouds rolled in and it started to rain.

Rainbow Bridge #4 12x9
This one was done a little closer to home. This bridge is about a mile from my house. Until recently, it was the main bridge over to Folsom.

Coon Creek 6x8
The Opening for the Winters Plein Air Festival was this evening. It was great fun. I met a lot of very nice people. Briggs and Co. puts on a fantastic event. I will definitely be doing it again next year.

I brought my paintings down to Briggs and Co. after school today. The opening for the Winters Plein Air Festival is tomorrow at 6:00. I saw a lot of great work being hung there. I'm really looking forward to seeing it all on the walls!
