rocks in the fog 6x8
came out to the Fort Ross area for a painting workshop led by Terry Miura. It was great fun and Terry is a great painter and teacher. I did this one the afternoon of the first day.

Chicago Fire Mural
I started working on this mural for Chicago Fire Pizza's new Roseville location at the end of July. I just finished it last week. These pictures were taken at the pre-opening party. It's a bit more graphic than how I usually paint but I think it suits the space well. I've done large night time scenes at the two other Chicago Fire locations. They really are a lot of fun to work on. Chicago Fire is a great Sacramento area restaurant. If you like Chicago style pizza and you haven't tried them, you need to get to one of their locations right away. You won't be disappointed!

Giant Gap #2 8x10
This was painted on a rare nice day this month. Normally I would be doing a lot more plein air work by this time of year but the weather has been uncooperative.

She-Ra 6x8
This is a gift for one of our teacher's who is retiring this year. I don't usually start with a tight drawing but in this case I needed to get the likeness of a specific dog.
After the drawing I do a loose under painting.
After the under painting It's just a matter of blocking in the fur color. I try to make an interesting combination of warm and cool values while maintaining the dog's likeness.
once the pooch has been blocked in I paint in the background. Sometimes I will start putting in the background sooner so I can adjust the other colors to the dark value that will be surrounding them. In this case, I chose not to do that. During this phase I try to pay close attention to my edges.

scissors etc. 11x14
I had a lot of fun painting this one. Reflective and transparent surfaces are endlessly fascinating to me.
