I bought this watch cap for a dollar. I think it makes me look like the demolitions guy in a world war II movie. I'm gonna go down to the river and place some limpet mines on an enemy vessel.

I guess I needed a break from landscapes. I've been sitting in my studio (garage) after the sun goes down listening to podcasts of This American Life and Radio Lab and painting these self portraits. I'd paint other people, but my family members are usually not up for sitting still for an hour or two. I like the way this one turned out. It has a spontaneity that I strive for but rarely achieve. I turned off the light that shines on my palette so that it wouldn't interfere with the light on my head which made it hard for me to see much detail. This ended up working out okay for me. Detail is sort of my enemy right now.

It was hot and smoky again today so I hid in my garage and did another self portrait.

It was another hot day, about 106. I waited 'til evening when my garage is nice and cool to do this self portrait on glue sized paper.

I got off work a bit late this afternoon and didn't get around to painting until later this evening. It was dark and I was tired.

Seems like I do one of these about every 100 paintings or so. I like this one. I'm thinking about entering it in the American Artist's self portrait competition. There's some awfully nice stuff entered so far.
