I installed a new operating system tonight and Photoshop stopped working. I managed to transfer the image to my wife's computer and then edited it there. What a hassle! I hope I can fix this.
Happy Halloween!

Ponderosa Bridge 7x7
This is a great place to swim. In the summertime there's a rope swing hanging from the bridge.
This painting is available through my new gallery, Kasini House.

A zombie a day?
here's a little side project I started with my students a week or two ago. Ostensibly created in anticipation of halloween, I suspect it was more to assuage my growing desire to draw monsters. I've set up a blog as a gallery that you can see here.

This is a stainless steel ball used for contact juggling. I don't know how to contact juggle. I bought it on line specifically for painting

pumpkin 5.5x7
I'm surprised that I hadn't painted a pumpkin until now. This is one of the really small ones that seem to be all shell. It seems like they're mostly used for decoration. I'm glad it had a nice long stem. I like the cast shadow that the stem makes on the pumpkin. I think it really helps to define the volume.

Paul 5.5x7
This is my friend paul. We were both working at Chicago Fire Pizza tonight trying to get ready for the opening this weekend. I just had to do some last minute work on their mural. I had intended on painting another landscape this evening on the river but it was kind of overcast and the light was pretty flat. Instead I managed to talk Paul into sitting still for me for an hour or so.

Cool limestone quarry 7x7
This is the view from across the canyon of Middle Fork of the American River just outside of Auburn. I had just set up my easle and was getting ready to start painting when a truck and trailer pulled off at my turnout. It was my mom and her husband Richard who were on their way home from a ride in Cool. Auburn's a small town but it's not that small! It was a nice coincidence seeing them.

apple #2 6x6
This is a pink lady apple left over from a cycling event that my wife created and promoted. I knew I wouldn't have time to get out to paint any landscapes this weekend so I defaulted to what I could control. Yesterday's strawberry was also from her event. It was a lot of work but very fun and a big success for the first year. It's called the Princess Promenade and you can read more about it here.

No Hands Bridge 6x6
This is No Hands Bridge. It's just down stream of the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River. It's an historic landmark in Auburn. There's a pretty interesting history of it here.

Bear River 6x6
This is the bear river at Dogbar. It's just down stream from the bridge. My mom used to take my sister and I here in the summer time when we were kids. It's still a pretty nice area. I think I'll come here to paint again. I like this one. I came pretty close to what I was shooting for.
The thing about landscapes is that I have to plan a bit more otherwise I waste a lot of time driving around looking for something to paint. With still life, I just set something up and go for it. No travel necessary.
