I think these two flavors go well together.

cutie 5x5

I like painting the fruits that are in season in the autumn. I'm starting this one of at $1.00 on eBay.

Putah Creek #2 6x8

I delivered a painting to a local patron and she was nice enough to invite me to do some painting on her beautiful property just outside of Davis. My wife and I had a great time meeting her and her family. Thanks a lot Jeanne!

persimmon #6 5x7

A student brought in a couple of persimmons the other day and I took 'em home so I could paint them over the vacation. He got them off of a tree in his yard. They seem to be brighter than the ones I've bought in the store recently. I think they're more ripe.

cemetery 6x8

I joined a local plein air painters meet up group about a week ago and today I met up with some of them at the old Sacramento Cemetery. I've driven by it hundreds of times on my way to the river to paint, but this is the first time I've gone inside. It's a really nice place to paint with a lot of future potential. I'll be back for sure. In addition to finding a new place to paint I also met some really nice people, among them, David Lobenberg, a fellow Sacramento area blogger. I'm looking forward to the next outing I can attend.

bent pepper 7x5

There was a box of red peppers in our break room at school. This one was bent in this interesting shape.

football 7x5

I typically paint objects that are a bit smaller than footballs. Doing an object of this size presented some practical problems for me. I needed a stage that would accommodate a football and I needed it to be about twice as far away as my usual set up. Tinkering with my space ended up being a pretty fun experience as breaking a routine often is.

Sutter Buttes 10x9

It was a beautiful day to be out painting. The Sutter Buttes are about an hours drive from my house. They are famous for being the worlds smallest mountain range.

persimmon #5 5x7

I had as much fun painting the block of wood as I had painting the persimmon.

moon #3 6x8

This latest batch of still lifes has been a lot of fun but I miss painting outside. The shorter days makes it a bit of a challenge but it's worth it when I can make it happen.

lemon wedge 7x5

I like how the cut fruit refracts the light and seems to glow.

peeled clementine #3 5x7

A couple of other artists that I like have done similar paintings recently and I thought they were very striking so I decided to try this composition. One problem that I didn't anticipate was that the peel kept dragging the clementine off it's perch.

feather #2 5x7

This is from a barred rock chicken. It was kind of fun to do such a monochromatic piece after those colorful leaves.

orange slice 5x7

I like the semi transparent edge on cut oranges and lemons.

yellow leaf 5x7

This leaf is from the same tree as yeasterday's. The masking tape was fun too.

red leaf 5x7

There is a large liquid amber tree out in front of my classroom. It's leaves are a beautiful variety of colors right now.

yellow heirloom 7x5

These big heirloom tomatoes are really beautiful in a sort of freaky way.
